Project staff complete the Campus Set-Up phase of the Liberian Books Project.  During this period they matched each participating US College with one Liberian school.  Book drives are planned on each US college campus Interantional Education Week November 16th-20th, 2009, to collect donated books in suport of the partner Liberian school.

Project Statement: I graduated from University of Michigan with a degree in Political Science and African/African American Studies and a hope to work in the nonprofit sector. The program with Liberian Literacy Foundation seems to be the perfect fit for my interests and goals in exploring the world and helping people.

Project Statement: I believe that participation in this program is a once in a lifetime experience. I am glad that am able to say that I am apart of a great experience to help improve our great country of Liberia. I am elated to be in this program.

Project Statement: I enjoyed doing this Proliteracy Detroit Vista program its very interesting and excited and it’s a lot of work and it’s a lot of stuff for you to know about Liberia I hope that one day I will be able to visit Liberia Africa caused I will want to continue to learn to know a lot of stuff about Africa it going to be fun

Project Statement: Working on this project mean a lot for me…it feels great working for your community, and helping others out. During this journey I hope to accomplish a lot through this program. But I am looking forward to pro-literacy’s future for me…and I want to become a excellent tutor and help a lot if people, and get a ton of books for libera.

Project Statement: Why Do I Want To Be A Americorps Vista: I want to give back to community . I want to pay back, payforward what I have been given .The keys to the kingdom ,the ability to read. I want to give a person the gift of life," Reading". I feel when you read you can go anyplace , be anybody,and do anything.

Project Statement: I am looking forward to helping the country of Liberia come back to life. This is very exciting and I am ready to do whatever I can to make everything that we are trying to get accomplished here.

Project Statement: I am very excited to be working with the Liberian Literacy Foundation. As a native Detroiter, I have given back to my community throughout the years. It is an awesome opportunity to have a chance to lend a helping hand, fighting illiteracy in Liberia, while simultaneously fighting illiteracy in my own backyard.
